Canvas has you covered in a variety of different situations and can point you in the right direction based on your needs.
On the side of the road
A car that’s undamaged might just need a jumpstart or installation of a spare tire that's located within the vehicle - or you may have simply locked the keys inside the car. In this case, it’s time to call for roadside assistance by dialing (844) 294-8006. If the issue can’t be resolved, the car may be towed to the nearest approved service location for maintenance. Please contact Marathon as well as the service center to set up service for any vehicles towed in for maintenance. Examples of situations that may be addressed through roadside assistance include:
- Battery issue
- Locked out of car
- Emergency fuel
- Mechanical breakdown requiring a tow
- Flat tire requiring a tow or installation of vehicle’s spare
A car that’s been moved to the curb, shoulder, or median because of a collision or loss of control of the vehicle may be damaged. If the car may be damaged, it’s time to call Liberty Mutual to have the car towed to a location where it can be evaluated.
In need of a mechanic
Over time and miles, your car may ‘ask’ for attention in one way or another. Check-engine lights, noises from under the hood, or noticeable changes in performance mean that your car needs service. Canvas has partnered with Marathon to facilitate the services your car needs and offers step by step guidance for scheduling service. Some examples of items that are best addressed through approved service locations include:
- Fluid levels
- Dashboard warning lights
- Headlight / taillight out
- Squeaky brakes
- Slow / inconsistent ignition
- Battery replacement
- Tire rotation / alignment
- Worn tire replacement (<4/32’’ tread)
- Engine performance
Alternatively, your car may be damaged in a collision or an incident that occurs when the vehicle is parked. In this case, Liberty Mutual is your point of contact. For scratches and dents, you can manage vehicle condition yourself, or elect to let Canvas manage repairs and bill you after the car is returned. More significant damage that interferes with the safe operation of the car needs to be repaired in consultation with Liberty Mutual before you resume driving. Some examples of items that are best addressed through insurance include:
- Broken windows and/or windshield
- Damaged rims
- Engine / drivetrain damaged in accident
- Structural damage (e.g. vehicle frame, axles, body panels)
Tires in otherwise good condition that need to be replaced after sustaining damage can be replaced at a service location of your choice, with the cost of tire replacement billed to you.
Without a car
When your car is kept overnight for maintenance or mechanical repair, you can reserve a rental car for the duration of the service and contact Marathon after submitting payment for reimbursement. We’ll cover the cost of an economy car, but are unable to cover additional fees for airport pickup, vehicle upgrades, or optional insurance (note that the insurance policy for your Canvas vehicle also covers rental cars obtained during overnight maintenance).
When you open a damage claim with Liberty Mutual, you can make use of the rental car coverage included in the policy - just ask the adjuster for details.
Recalls
When a recall is announced, cars affected by the recall may be repaired at no charge to the driver at a dealership associated with the car's manufacturer. You may schedule service at a dealership of your choice, as recall repairs don't require use of Canvas maintenance coverage.
Asking about the availability of parts is recommended, as this may affect the amount of time required to complete the repair. As a standard practice, Canvas does not turn cars with known recalls over to customers, and notifies customers of new recalls as they're reported.
